TPI composite has signed a new 5 year supply agreement with Proterra company, providing the composite bus body for Proterra Catalyst zero emission electric bus.
The car is made by Proterra's production plant in Rhode Island and a new factory in Newton, Iowa, United States. According to the contract, TPI will provide 3350 buses for the body in 5 years.
The composite body structure will be reinforced by carbon fiber and glass fiber, and the lightweight body structure obtained by this technology is several thousand pounds lighter than the traditional metal space frame. The lighter weight composite body structure is one of the main drivers of the Proterra's leading battery - based electric vehicle. The composite structure provides additional performance advantages, including increasing durability and reducing maintenance costs.
