According to a recent survey, German plastics packaging manufacturers are optimistic about business growth in the second quarter of 2018.
In the survey of the German Plastics Packaging Industry Association (IK), about 40% of companies expect their turnover to increase, and a quarter of respondents believe that exports are growing.
The good economic growth of the EU is the main reason why the industry makes positive predictions.
At present, almost half of companies predict that raw material prices will increase in the second quarter.
The IK survey also showed that the topic of packaging recycling is becoming more and more important for respondents, especially the use of recycled materials in packaging.
In contrast, the survey found that the topic of marine litter and EU plastics strategies only played a "secondary role" for respondents.
Ulf Kelterborn, general manager of IK, said that the use of recycled materials in packaging can be more widely promoted, especially in the non-food sector.
He pointed out: "Although many companies publicly promise to use more recyclable materials in plastic packaging, this has only been implemented in a few cases."
He added that “substantially improving resource recycling” will be very welcome, especially in the context of the EU’s recent environmental policies and goals.
