3A Composites Contributes to Sustainable Water Taxi Design

Last week, 3A Composites / AirexBaltekBanova revealed details of its contribution to the new Agena Marin Taxi catamaran. The water taxi has a sustainable design concept, combined with the advantages of composite AIREX in Figure 3A® T92 PET foam has a special hull shape to provide fuel efficiency, reduce waste, and significantly improve ride quality.

As 3A Composites explained, the prototype of a water taxi is built on a “one-off” construction, mainly from the concept test of the platform die to a full-scale prototype. The taxi uses the "ultra-drain hull form (UDH)", 3A composite material explained that it combines deep super-fine intelligent bow with Takahashi noodles. This type of hull is designed for impact piercing and never "crash" - thereby providing a more comfortable ride for occupants and passengers. Smart hull design and construction can reduce the engine power to a small fraction. Reducing weight can improve other aspects of the boat and leave buoyancy for the payload.

3A Composites stated that the use of unique hull and deck composite engineering vacuum resin impregnation can achieve the lightest, strongest, and most robust boats. It offers maximum stability with industry-leading fuel efficiency. All bulkhead and deck components are structurally designed to provide tank structural elements throughout the vessel.

“After 10 years of research and development, we are proud to offer sustainable catamaran concepts for special applications; including water taxis, crew transfer, diving support, commercial fishing, charter fishing and alternate tariffs,” Peharda said.
